Filipino Dota 2 player Michael "ninjaboogie" Ross Jr. has claimed that he was kicked from Team SMG due to the latter's concern that his dying mother would have affected his professional performance.

In a tweet yesterday, ninjaboogie said his mother suffered from stage four cancer and passed away on Monday, adding that "he knew for some time that this day will come".

"Imagine being fired from a job because you are about to lose a loved one," ninjaboogie said moments after Team SMG announced his departure from the team.

In a subsequent tweet, ninjaboogie explained that he was supposed to board a flight to join the team on May 14, but the plan was upended after his mother suffered a stroke and was hospitalised on May 12.

"I asked if i could have my flight moved as bootcamp starts on the 20th. Midone gave me a call on the 14th asking my decision."

Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng is a Malaysian professional Dota 2 player who is currently playing for Team SMG.

Ninjaboogie said he gave his explanation the following day, after which the team had a meeting without him and decided that they were going to continue without him.

As at the time of writing, Team SMG has not issued an official statement to address ninjaboogie's claims.
