Police in Taiwan have arrested former League of Legends world champion Curtis "Toyz" Lau over an alleged drug-related offence on September 29.

Lau was the mid-laner for Taiwanese esports organization Taipei Assassins, which won the second edition of the League of Legends World Championship in 2012.

Several Taiwanese media outlets reported that Lau was arrested by police for smuggling and selling marijuana. Police searched Lau's home in Taichung City and found about 200 marijuana tablets, which Lau allegedly planned to sell online.

The Taichung district public prosecutors office earlier issued a warrant for his arrest for allegedly smuggling Class 2 marijuana. The recreational drug is considered an illegal substance in Taiwan.

According to Taiwan's Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, individuals who possess and distribute Class 2 narcotics can be jailed for five years and fined up to 5 million New Taiwan dollars (US$179,396.70) if found guilty.

Local police have suspected Lau of dealing drugs online for some time. It is understood Lau built a large network of clients through his job as an online game host and a famous YouTuber.

Lau, who was subjected to a drug test by the police, is expected to be charged in court at a later date.
