Fans of action-adventure games will undoubtedly know the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft’s premier historical sci-fi saga. But if you’ve never dipped your toes into this storied series, here’s the perfect chance.

Ubisoft has announced a free weekend event for Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, Black Flag and Valhalla, which can be played for free from August 10 until August 14.

Depending on the platform, up to five Assassin’s Creed games on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, as well as Windows PC — through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store — will be available to play for free.

For the uninitiated, the Assassin’s Creed games have players embody formidable and elusive assassins who use their special abilities to protect free will at pivotal moments in human history. The series has seen many different eras represented, like the Renaissance and Ancient Egypt.

The most memorable games are Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood and Revelations, which take players on a journey through the life of Ezio Auditore. Players will learn the ways of the Assassins and exact vengeance for the betrayal of Ezio’s family through the height of the Renaissance.

Another notable game in the series is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which has players embarking on the ship of the pirate, Edward Kenway. As the young, cocky, and fearsome buccaneer, players will conquer the ruthless Caribbean lands and seas.

In the latest mainline entry, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players assume the role of Eivor, a mighty Viking raider. Players will lead their clan from the harsh shores of Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England and build their own Viking legend.

New players will have access to the full main game content for all five titles. Those who want to continue their journey will keep their game progression and enjoy discounts on these Assassin’s Creed games.

From August 9 until August 17, PC players can get up to 85 per cent off on Assassin’s Creed games through Ubisoft Connect. Meanwhile, PlayStation owners can enjoy discounts of up to 80 per cent for these games from August 9 to 15.

For Xbox players, there will be a “Buy One Get Two Free” program for many Assassin’s Creed games, including Black Flag and Valhalla from August 10 to 14. After that, between August 15 and 28, players can enjoy discounts of up to 85 per cent for various Assassin’s Creed titles, including the games available during the Free Weekend.
