While Tokyo Game Show (TGS) features many major triple-A titles to audiences worldwide, it is also a great time for indie games to strut their stuff and showcase their uniqueness. This year’s TGS was filled to the brim with indie games from across the world.

On top of checking out key titles by the likes of Square Enix and Sega, IGN Southeast Asia took the time to check out as many indie games as possible. Here are ten of our favourites from this year’s TGS.

Wildmender

Touted as a desert gardening and survival game, Wildmender has players exploring a decaying world and restoring it to life. It has a great visual style and a ton of charm, and we definitely think that this game is best enjoyed with a friend by your side.

Enotria: The Last Song

A souls-like with an Italian Renaissance twist, Enotria: The Last Song aims to shake up the usual FromSoftware formula in exchange for something a little more kinetic and freeform. The result is a truly brisk game that will keep even the most seasoned players on their toes.

I Need Space

Another charming adventure by Indonesian studio Khayalan Arts, I Need Space is a sidescrolling space game that has players building a planetary base and meeting a wonderful cast of characters. It has a ton of potential and we can’t wait to see what the game has to offer.

Fallen Knight: Rise of the Fallen

Created by Thai developers FairPlay Studios, this add-on for the fast-paced action platformer is already available on Apple devices. We hope this DLC expansion comes to Steam and consoles soon because Megaman Zero fans will definitely have a lot to love about this game.

The Spirit of the Samurai

A game that oozes style and substance, The Spirit of the Samurai brings not only familiar Kurosawa-esque action to its swordfights but also Harry Hausen-style stop-motion monsters for players to fight against. It is effortlessly cool and a must-play when it releases.

Altered Alma

One of the most exciting upcoming metroidvanias, Altered Alma features a slick cyberpunk world all rendered in beautiful pixel art. As the young mercenary Jackelyne, players will explore the dangerous world of Neo-Barcelona and enjoy tight combat encounters.

LunarLux

Released recently after TGSw drew its curtains, this cutesy turn-based RPG will have players feeling very cool once they understand its unique flow of battle. Its Game Boy Advance-like aesthetic is also a sight to behold.

Undefeated: Genesis

Those who keep an eye on the indie game scene may remember a remarkable Superman simulator called Undefeated that was released as a free demo. Now returning as Undefeated: Genesis, this superhero action game is still a blast to play and is the ultimate power fantasy.

Light Sup!

This multiplayer Thai fantasy game is like a 2D version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, with up to four players teaming up to fight monsters in different classes. Light Sup is very much the perfect couch co-op experience and has room for even more features down the line.

Demonschool

The old-school throwback to the first two Persona games on the original PlayStation, Demonschool has all the vibes of Atlus’ signature games. While its contemporary story is enough of a draw, its punishing combat system is what kept us hooked to the demo.
